Lap Code

Time your code. Know your pace.

Lap Code is a VS Code extension that brings a focused countdown timer directly into your editor — built for anyone grinding LeetCode, practicing system design, or working through timed challenges.

No context switching. No Alt-Tab. Just code and a clock.

What it does

  • Set a time budget for each problem before you start
  • Live countdown in your sidebar — turns red and goes negative when you're over time, so you always know where you stand
  • Session history logs every problem with your planned vs. actual time, building a personal record of your practice

Why it's useful

Most coders either ignore time completely or glance at a phone clock mid-thought. Lap Code puts the timer where your focus already is — inside VS Code — and makes the data stick. Over time, your history tells you exactly how fast you solve what kind of problem.

It's the difference between practicing and training.

Getting started

  1. Install the extension
  2. Click the Lap Code icon in the Activity Bar
  3. Enter a problem name and your time target
  4. Hit Start — and code
