MemStrata Coder for VS Code

MemStrata Coder connects VS Code and compatible editor hosts to the MemStrata Coder desktop service running locally on your computer. It adds a dashboard, automatic workspace registration, context retrieval, coding telemetry, and status controls without sending your workspace to a separate extension service. The desktop installer offers the same signed VSIX to every detected supported host (VS Code, VS Code Insiders, Cursor, Windsurf and Google Antigravity); each host keeps its own extension store.

Before you start

1. Install and complete setup in the MemStrata Coder desktop app.
2. Keep the MemStrata tray app running.
3. Open a folder in VS Code, then select the MemStrata Coder icon in the Activity Bar.

The normal desktop flow does not require a separate “Memory Layer API key.” The extension talks to the loopback-only service at 127.0.0.1:8000. Managed enterprise installations can pre-provision an API key without prompting users.

What the status means

• ML online: the desktop service is reachable.
• ML offline: launch MemStrata Coder from the Start menu and finish setup if prompted.
• Paused: context injection is temporarily disabled from the status-bar control.

Privacy

Workspace processing is local by default. Cloud-provider keys in desktop setup are optional advanced routing credentials; they are not needed for this extension or for the local Qwen model.
