VBAx

Edit VBA in Cursor/VS Code. No more copy-paste from AI and manual version control.

Finally use AI code assistants with Excel VBA. Write macros with Cursor, Claude, Copilot - changes sync instantly to Excel.

Why VBAx?

  • AI-native workflow: Generate VBA with your favorite AI, see it run in Excel immediately
  • Real-time sync: Edit in VS Code/Cursor, changes appear in Excel VBA editor (and vice versa)
  • Git your macros: VBA modules as plain text files you can version control
  • Zero friction: No export/import buttons, just save and it syncs

Getting Started

  1. Install the extension from the marketplace
  2. Sign in using the sidebar panel
  3. Link a workbook from your workspace
  4. Edit VBA files in your editor - changes sync automatically!

Requirements

  • Windows with Microsoft Excel installed
  • Trust Center setting: "Trust access to the VBA project object model" enabled

Sidebar Panel

The VBAx sidebar shows:

  • Account: Sign in/out, subscription status
  • Current Workspace: Linked and unlinked Excel files
  • Other Workspaces: Linked files from other projects

How It Works

The extension manages a local bridge service that communicates with Excel via COM. The bridge:

  • Auto-downloads on first sign-in (~10 MB, one-time)
  • Runs invisibly in the background
  • Only accepts local connections (localhost)

Privacy & Security

  • All syncing happens locally on your machine
  • No VBA code is sent to external servers
  • Authentication is handled via Auth0 (industry standard)
