This plugin is designed to run the generate and build cmake commands for MPLAB projects.

🏃‍♀️ Getting started

Open an existing MPLAB project or create a new one using the command MPLAB: Create New Project
Start a build by pressing CMD/CTRL + Shift + B or using the command MPLAB CMake: Build
Select build target "PROJECT": "CONFIGURATION" - Build. This should generate and build the required CMakeFiles files and build output.

Cppcheck integration - static code analysis

The Cppcheck integration brings real-time, in-IDE static analysis directly into your MPLAB workflow.

Works with both Cppcheck open-source and Cppcheck Premium. Premium adds MISRA C 2012/2023/2025, MISRA C++ 2008/2023, AUTOSAR C++ 14, CERT C/C++, compliance reports, bug-hunting mode, and TÜV-certified builds for ISO 26262, IEC 61508, EN 50128, EN 50657, and EN 50716.

Steps to setup:

Install Cppcheck
- Open-source: https://cppcheck.net
- Premium (free 3-week trial, no credit card required): https://cppcheck.com/microchip
Make sure the cppcheck executable is added to the PATH environment variable
Enable the Cppcheck integration feature in the VS Code Settings view
Restart VS Code

After setup you will get MPLAB Cppcheck tasks for each of your MPLAB project configurations. The tasks will be available together with your other build tasks (Ctrl + Shift + B).

Note: Cppcheck requires you to first build your project since it will use output from CMake (compile_commands.json).

Known Issues

Problem Matchers may still need some refining to ensure all compiler errors are caught.
