🚀 Getting Started

Prerequisites

• VS Code 1.116.0 or later.
• GitHub Copilot subscription (Free, Pro, or Enterprise).
• An Anthropic API Key or Auth Token (or a proxy token when using custom endpoints / CC-SWITCH).

Quick Setup

1. Install the Extension:

   • Install .vsix from Anthropic: Install from VSIX or command line:

     code --install-extension anthropic-for-copilot.vsix
     

2. Configure API Key / Token:

   • Press Ctrl+Shift+P (Mac: Cmd+Shift+P), run Anthropic: Set API Key, and paste your Key or Token.
   • Alternatively: Set the ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN or ANTHROPIC_API_KEY environment variable.

3. Configure Custom Base URL (Optional):

   • Run Anthropic: Open Settings and set anthropic-copilot.baseUrl if using a custom API proxy or CC-SWITCH.

4. Start Chatting:

   • Open Copilot Chat (Ctrl+Alt+I), select Sonnet 5, Opus 5, or Fable 5.1 from the model picker, and enjoy 1M context!

🔒 Security & Privacy

• API keys and tokens are stored in VS Code's encrypted SecretStorage (Windows Credential Manager / macOS Keychain / Linux Secret Service).
• Zero external runtime dependencies — uses Node.js built-in fetch and standard VS Code Extension APIs.
