Lippa for VS Code
Connect your codebase to Lippa's AI agent.
Lippa's agent works on app.lippa.ai. This extension connects the workspace you
have open in VS Code to it, through the lippa-bridge command-line tool, so the
agent can read files, edit code, run commands and run tests in your real
environment, with your approval where it matters.
What it does, and what it does not
- It pairs this computer with your Lippa account, starts
lippa-bridge for the
open workspace, and shows the connection in the status bar.
- It shows the agent's activity in the Lippa Bridge output channel and asks
you to approve commands that need approval.
- It makes no model calls and has no chat in VS Code: you talk to the agent on
https://app.lippa.ai.
- The extension itself makes no network calls except when you revoke this
device. The
lippa-bridge CLI it starts holds your connection to Lippa.
Requirements
Requires a paired LocalBridge device and a Lippa plan that includes it -- see https://lippa.ai/vscode
The lippa-bridge CLI 1.2.0 or later, from npm:
npm install -g lippa-bridge
The extension and the CLI have their own version numbers and update
separately. If your CLI is older than 1.2.0, the extension tells you once per
session how to update it.
VS Code 1.90 or later.
Remote workspaces (Remote-SSH, WSL, Codespaces)
The extension runs where your workspace is. In a Remote-SSH, WSL or Codespaces
window, install lippa-bridge on the remote machine, not only on your local
one.
Pair this device
- Open a folder in VS Code (one folder; multi-root workspaces are not
supported).
- Run Lippa: Pair Device from the Command Palette.
- Open https://app.lippa.ai/settings/devices, choose Pair New Device and
copy the 6-character code.
- Enter the code in VS Code. The extension pairs this device and connects.
Paired devices are listed, and can be removed, at
https://app.lippa.ai/settings/devices.
Connect and disconnect
When this device is paired, the extension connects when you open the workspace
(setting lippa.autoConnect). Use Lippa: Connect and Lippa: Disconnect,
or click the Lippa item in the status bar.
One connection per device is active at a time. If you open the same workspace
in a second VS Code window, the newest connection replaces the older one, and
the older window waits until you choose Reconnect there. If Lippa reports
that this device's sign-in has expired or was revoked, the extension stops and
offers Pair again.
Revoke this device
Run Lippa: Revoke Device and confirm. The extension asks Lippa to revoke
this device first:
- When Lippa confirms, it stops the connection and removes the local sign-in
(
~/.lippa/config.json): "This device is signed out of Lippa."
- If Lippa no longer knows this sign-in, it removes the local sign-in too and
says so, with a link to your devices.
- If Lippa cannot be reached or gives any other answer, nothing is removed:
"Revoke failed -- this device is still signed in to Lippa." Choose
Retry, or remove the device at https://app.lippa.ai/settings/devices.
Workspace trust
In an untrusted workspace Lippa does not connect or pair. You can still view
its status and its activity log, and revoke this device. Trust the workspace to
connect.
