Open a spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel with a right-click in VS Code's Explorer. Supports .xlsx, .xls, .xlsm, and .csv files.

Before you start
- Use the desktop version of VS Code 1.80.0 or later on Windows.
- Install Microsoft Excel on the same computer.
- Have the
open-with-excel-1.0.2.vsix installation file ready.
Install the extension
- Save the supplied
open-with-excel-1.0.2.vsix file to your computer.
- Open VS Code and press Ctrl+Shift+X to open Extensions.
- Click … at the top of the Extensions view and choose Install from VSIX….
- Select
open-with-excel-1.0.2.vsix and wait for installation to finish.
- If VS Code asks you to reload, select Reload. Find Open With Excel in your installed extensions and confirm that it is enabled.
This uses VS Code's official Install from VSIX workflow.
Open your first spreadsheet
- In VS Code, select File → Open Folder… and choose a folder containing a spreadsheet, such as
sales.xlsx.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+E to open Explorer and find the file.
- Right-click the file and select 用 Excel 打开 (Chinese for “Open with Excel”; this is the current menu label).
- The spreadsheet opens in the Microsoft Excel desktop application.
Set the Excel path if needed
If you see 找不到 Excel (“Excel not found”), tell the extension where Excel is installed:
- Press Ctrl+, to open Settings.
- Search for
openWithExcel.excelPath.
- Under Open With Excel: Excel Path, enter the full path to
EXCEL.EXE, without surrounding quotation marks.
- Right-click the spreadsheet in Explorer and try again.
The default installation location is:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\EXCEL.EXE
Some Office installations use:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\EXCEL.EXE
Use the path that exists on your computer. You can check these folders in Windows File Explorer.
Troubleshooting
- The menu item is missing: right-click a supported file in VS Code's Explorer. Check that its extension is
.xlsx, .xls, .xlsm, or .csv, and that Open With Excel is enabled.
- Excel cannot be found: check the path in Settings and confirm that
EXCEL.EXE exists there.
- The old icon or details are still visible: press Ctrl+Shift+P and run Developer: Reload Window.
Update the extension
When you receive a newer VSIX file, repeat the installation steps with that file. To see what changed, read the changelog.

打开第一个表格
- 在 VS Code 中选择“文件 → 打开文件夹…”，打开一个包含表格的文件夹，例如里面有
sales.xlsx。
- 按 Ctrl+Shift+E 打开“资源管理器”，找到该表格。
- 右键点击文件，选择“用 Excel 打开”。
- 表格会在 Microsoft Excel 桌面程序中打开。
必要时设置 Excel 路径
如果提示“找不到 Excel”，请告诉插件 Excel 安装在哪里：
- 按 Ctrl+, 打开 VS Code 设置。
- 搜索
openWithExcel.excelPath。
- 在 Open With Excel: Excel Path 输入框中填写
EXCEL.EXE 的完整路径，不要在路径两端添加引号。
- 回到资源管理器，重新右键点击表格并选择“用 Excel 打开”。
默认安装路径为：
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\EXCEL.EXE
部分 Office 安装使用以下路径：
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\EXCEL.EXE
请填写本机实际存在的路径，可在 Windows 文件资源管理器中检查以上文件夹。
常见问题
- 右键菜单里没有“用 Excel 打开”：请在 VS Code 的资源管理器中右键点击表格文件，检查后缀是否为
.xlsx、.xls、.xlsm 或 .csv，并确认插件已启用。
- 提示找不到 Excel：检查设置里的路径，并确认该位置确实存在
EXCEL.EXE。
- 仍显示旧图标或旧版说明：按 Ctrl+Shift+P 打开命令面板，执行“开发人员: 重新加载窗口”（英文为 Developer: Reload Window）。
