Touba Developer Tools

Language support for Touba .tb programs in Visual Studio Code.

Write typed agent programs, review compiler diagnostics, and inspect execution traces without leaving your editor. Touba keeps capability selection separate from the authority to execute an action.

Features

  • Syntax highlighting and transparent Touba file icons.
  • Compiler-backed diagnostics while you edit.
  • Symbols, hover information, completion and navigation to declarations.
  • Support for typed contracts, enums, optional values, agents and strategies.
  • Run the current program and answer its explicit input requests.
  • Inspect AIR, manifests and execution traces; navigate from events to source.
  • Render program architecture and validate memory action plans.
  • Identify the managed packages/ directory in the Explorer.

AIR is Touba's compiled intermediate representation. Trace views show execution events and refusals; they do not change a program's permissions.

Installation

The first public release is being prepared. Downloads and the Marketplace listing will be linked from Touba Hub when available.

For a VSIX supplied by the maintainers:

  1. Use VS Code 1.119.0 or later.
  2. Select the archive for your operating system and processor.
  3. Open Extensions → … → Install from VSIX….
  4. Select the file, then reload the window if requested.

Each archive contains a native compiler. The platform suffix is darwin-arm64 (Apple Silicon), darwin-x64 (Intel Mac), linux-x64 or win32-x64. A VSIX for one platform is not a universal installer.

Install the Touba CLI separately for terminal workflows and Run Current File. The extension includes the compiler and runtime components needed for its editor features; using those bundled features does not require Rust or Cargo.

Everyday commands

Open the Command Palette and search for Touba.

Command Use
Check CLI Check the selected Touba installation and show the extension build.
Open Terminal Open a terminal for Touba commands.
Run Current File Compile and run the active saved .tb file.
Inspect Artifact Inspect an AIR, manifest, trace or report.
Render Trace Read execution events in order.
Open Trace Event Source Navigate from a trace event to its source.
Render Architecture View the declarations and relationships in a compiled program.
Validate Memory Action Plan Validate an explicitly selected memory plan.

CLI and project configuration

The extension uses touba from PATH, then checks $HOME/.touba/bin/touba. To select another installation, set TOUBA_CLI_PATH in the environment that launches VS Code. An invalid explicit path is reported rather than silently replaced by another installation.

Tool handlers, secrets, provider configuration and permissions belong to your Touba project. Installing the extension does not configure these or grant external access. JavaScript and Python handlers use the same Touba source contracts; see the SDK guides.

For portable trace navigation, open the matching source folder. If no folder is open, the extension can ask you to select the source root.

Feedback and contributions

Report a problem with your operating system, VS Code version, the output of Touba: Check CLI, and a small example. Remove secrets and personal data from logs before sharing them.
