React Native Live Console

Stream React Native logs into a VS Code Output channel, from simulators, emulators and real devices.

Features

  • Start Android Logs – runs npx react-native log-android
  • Start iOS Logs – runs npx react-native log-ios (simulator only)
  • Start Device Logs (Real iPhone via Metro) – streams console.log/warn/error and exceptions from any device connected to Metro
  • Stop Logs and Clear Logs

Logs appear in Output → React Native Live Console.

Usage

  1. Open your React Native project folder in VS Code.
  2. Start Metro (npx react-native start) and run your app.
  3. Open the Command Palette (Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+P) and run one of the React Native Live Console commands.

Requirements

  • VS Code 1.100 or newer
  • A React Native project with the React Native CLI available (npx react-native)
  • For device logs: Metro running and the app connected to it

Settings

Setting Default Description
reactNativeLiveConsole.metroPort 8081 Port of the running Metro bundler

Known limitations

  • Only one debugger can attach to the app at a time; close React Native DevTools if device logs don't appear.
  • Device logs only include messages printed after connecting.
  • log-ios / log-android only read logs from simulators/emulators or adb-connected devices.
