BIM to PBIP Converter for VS Code

Convert model.bim files into Power BI Project (PBIP) folders directly from the VS Code Explorer.

Features

• Right-click any .bim file → Convert model.bim to PBIP
• Choose a project name
• Optionally use safe partitions to guarantee the project opens in Power BI Desktop
• Automatically reveals the generated folder when finished

Requirements

• Python 3.10+ installed and available on PATH
• No extra Python packages required (uses only the standard library)

Usage

1. Right-click a .bim file in the Explorer.
2. Select Convert model.bim to PBIP.
3. Enter a project name.
4. Choose whether to keep original partitions or use safe partitions.
5. Open the generated .pbip file in Power BI Desktop.

Extension Settings

None yet.

Known Issues

• Safe partitions replace all import partitions with empty schema-preserving tables so the model opens without external data dependencies.
