GSL Editor

Language Server Protocol support for GSL (Gio Systems Language).

Features

  • Compiler diagnostics for saved and unsaved documents.
  • Completion for visible variables, parameters, functions, types and known fields.
  • Auto-import suggestions that insert imports when accepted.
  • Semantic highlighting for variables, functions, types, constants and other tokens.
  • Comment toggling and bracket pairing.

Requirements

This extension is a client. It does not bundle or download the GSL compiler or language server. You need a GSL checkout, Python 3.10+ and a compiler built with --editor-check and --editor-index support.

The current compiler runs on Linux x86_64. You can also use a Linux workspace through Remote SSH or WSL; install this extension and its prerequisites on that workspace host. Native Windows/macOS compiler execution is not supported.

Setup

  1. Build the editor compiler using the GSL language-server guide.
  2. Run GSL: Configure Language Server from the command palette.
  3. Set the absolute launcher and compiler paths in your user settings:
{
  "gsl.serverPath": "/absolute/path/gslc/bin/gsl-lsp",
  "gsl.compiler": "/absolute/path/editor-compiler"
}
  1. Open a single workspace folder and a .gsl file.

Keep the GSL checkout available. Configuration changes restart the server; GSL: Restart Language Server is also available. Compiler diagnostics appear in Problems and server logs in the GSL output channel.

Use Ctrl+Space for completion. Accepting an auto-import suggestion inserts the import; typing alone does not modify imports.

Settings and limits

gsl.entryPoints selects application roots when editing shared imported modules. gsl.target, gsl.platform and gsl.platformRoot select the compilation profile. gsl.autoImports, gsl.importRoots and gsl.importExclude control import suggestions. Empty import roots use the workspace and the checkout's core/std directories. gsl.timeout controls the compiler timeout.

Auto-import searches require two prefix characters and inspect up to 256 files. Member completion uses known receiver types; general type inference and generic field substitution are not provided. Hover, navigation, rename and formatting are not implemented. Diagnostics report the first compiler error per entry point.

The extension supports one workspace folder per window and local file documents. Semantic colors use the active theme. Adapter and package checks have passed; this release has not yet been verified in a running VS Code extension host.
