FinCodes for VS Code
Your FinCraftly AI Workspace, in VS Code. Sign in, and your departments and AI employees open in the editor — the same ones as on the web. Talk to a department here and the manager plans the work and hands it on; when the work is code in this folder, it happens on this computer, with every change waiting for your yes.
FinCodes shows up in two places: the FinCraftly icon in the left bar opens the panel beside your files, and the FinCraftly icon at the top right of any editor opens the same panel as an editor tab.
Before you start
This extension talks to FinCodes on your computer, so install FinCodes first:
Install
- Download
fincodes-vscode.vsix from fincraftly.com/applications/editors.
- Open VS Code and press Ctrl+Shift+X (Cmd+Shift+X on Mac) to open Extensions.
- Click the … at the top of the Extensions panel, choose Install from VSIX… and pick the file.
Don't double-click the file. On Windows that opens the Visual Studio Installer, not VS Code.
Set up (once per computer and project)
- Click the FinCraftly icon in the left bar and click Sign in. Your browser opens fincraftly.com: sign in there (or create an account with Subscribe), approve FinCodes for VS Code, and come back. Your account and workspace live on the web; the editor only holds a connection you can end from Settings → FinCraftly MCP.
- Under This computer, click Connect this computer. Your browser opens: check the code matches and click Approve.
- Open your project folder and click Let them work in this folder. Choose how much the team may do. Guarded, the default, asks you before every change.
Use it
- Talk to a department: pick it in the rail (or the switcher at the top when the panel is narrow) and write, for example add a contact form to the home page. The manager answers and hands the work on — replies land in the panel as they are written, and the same conversation is on the web and on your phone.
- Build something: the command in the palette and the right-click menu starts a job in this folder straight from the daemon; the plan and each step appear under On this computer in the panel.
- Approve changes: each change opens as a side-by-side diff. Click Approve, Approve all edits in this job, or Reject. Pushing, deleting and installing always ask.
- See who wrote a line: changed lines are marked. Hover one to see which employee wrote it, with which AI model, and why.
- Quick jobs: select code and right-click for Explain this selection or Write a test for this. On a red error, click the lightbulb and choose FinCodes: fix this error. In Source Control, click Review my branch.
- Stop: stop a job any time from the panel.
- What left this computer: shows exactly what was sent to AI models, file by file.
A job started here is the same job on the web, on your phone and in the terminal, so you can start it in VS Code and approve from your phone.
What it costs
Every read and write the panel makes is an API call against your workspace's monthly quota (shown at the foot of the rail). The panel only polls while it is visible and a department is working, and backs off the longer the team takes, so a typical exchange costs a few dozen calls.
Something not working?
Sign in never finishes: the browser must reach 127.0.0.1 on this computer (the sign-in comes back through a local port). Press Sign in again; the previous attempt is discarded.
"Your FinCraftly connection has ended": it was disconnected on the web, or the token was revoked. Sign in again.
It asks you to connect, or to allow the folder: do the Set up steps above, then try again.
Nothing happens at all: check FinCodes is installed. On Windows, make sure FinCraftly for Windows has been opened at least once.
