Design on the web, apply in VS Code

  • Create light or dark themes: generate a palette and edit individual colors with a live preview of code, tabs, the explorer and terminal.
  • Start from an image: the web editor uses its dominant colors and spatial composition to inspire a theme. Use the file button or drag an image into the preview.
  • Try without an account: generation and the public community are available in your browser. Sign in to save favorites and synchronize them with the extension.
  • Use a visual library in VS Code: preview each theme's palette, filter light and dark themes, and select a card to apply it.
  • Apply native color themes: the extension installs a local declarative theme library, covering workbench colors and TextMate syntax rules. It does not paste hundreds of color overrides into your settings.
  • Keep a way back: restore the appearance saved before applying your theme.

Image generation and visual editing happen on the website; the extension is the bridge to your saved library. Your installed language extensions, semantic highlighting and personal VS Code customizations can affect the final appearance.

Quick start

  1. Open Theme Creator. Choose Claro (light) or Oscuro (dark), then Generar tema. Use Desde imagen to create a palette from an image instead.
  2. Sign in on the website and save a theme to your favorites.
  3. Install this extension in Visual Studio Code 1.100 or later. Open the Theme Creator icon in the Activity Bar and choose Conectar mi cuenta.
  4. Check the official domain and compare the device code in your browser with the code in VS Code. Approve only the connection you started, using the same account as the web editor.
  5. Return to VS Code and select a theme card. Use Actualizar temas in the sidebar when you want to reload your saved library.

The first application installs the local theme library. Theme selection then uses VS Code's normal workbench.colorTheme setting. Browser guest history is local to that tab's session and is not automatically available to the extension.

Import and customize your existing appearance (0.7.0)

Run Theme Creator: Personalizar mi VS Code, or open Importar desde VS Code in the website's account menu. Compare the window code and connect with the same account. Your theme, supported visual settings and installed icon references become a private profile. Edit and save it, then choose Aplicar en VS Code and either your user profile or the current workspace. No JSON upload/download is needed. The website confirms only after VS Code acknowledges the application.

This profile flow supports local desktop VS Code. Its preview is approximate; original TextMate/semantic rules are preserved for the IDE. Fonts and icons need to be installed locally. Application uses a separate native theme library and theme-specific customization blocks to preserve unrelated settings.

Theme Creator: Restaurar apariencia anterior restores the last application, including visual settings, even offline. Later local changes are preserved and reported as conflicts. User-profile changes can affect other windows. Disconnect the editing connection from the status bar when finished. Imported profiles are not published to the community.

Commands

Open the Command Palette and search for Theme Creator. The interface currently uses Spanish labels:

Command Action
Theme Creator: Iniciar sesión Connect your account
Theme Creator: Elegir tema Choose a saved theme
Theme Creator: Restaurar tema anterior Restore your previous appearance
Theme Creator: Cerrar sesión Disconnect and revoke the extension session
Theme Creator: Personalizar mi VS Code Import a private appearance profile
Theme Creator: Restaurar apariencia anterior Restore the last profile application, including settings
Theme Creator: Desconectar edición de apariencia Stop this window's editing connection

Troubleshooting

The library is empty. Save a favorite on the website, confirm that both the browser and extension use the same account, then choose Actualizar temas. A theme in guest history alone is not a synchronized favorite.

The authorization code expired or does not match. Cancel and start a new sign-in from VS Code. Never approve a code you did not request.

The service cannot be reached. Check the connection and themeCreator.serverUrl. Its production value is https://themecreator.timoideas.com. HTTPS is required except for localhost development; do not change this setting for normal use.

The server does not support appearance import yet. Version 0.8.1 keeps favorite-library synchronization and native application compatible with V1 servers. Importing/applying from the website requires its V2 routes to be deployed; updating the extension alone cannot enable those routes.

A color looks different from the preview. Check language extensions, semantic highlighting and the specific user or workspace color customization. You do not need to delete unrelated settings. See the color-key troubleshooting guide.

Find the complete workflow in the installation guide. For help, use this listing's Questions section with your extension version, VS Code version and visible error. Do not share tokens or private project files.

Session security and privacy

The extension uses device authorization and stores its access token in VS Code SecretStorage. Signing out revokes the session. The Google OAuth client secret is not bundled with the extension. Generated theme libraries contain declarative color JSON files, not executable theme code.

While signed in, the extension sends a connection heartbeat so the website can show your active VS Code session. It includes a generated installation ID, platform, architecture, VS Code and extension versions, and remote-environment type when present. It does not send project files or source code. There is no advertising analytics in the extension; this heartbeat is an operational account feature. Signing out disconnects that session status.

Theme Creator is an independent Timoideas product. Visual Studio Code is a Microsoft product; this extension is not published by Microsoft.
