Markdown Editor Colorful
Markdown
English | 简体中文 | 繁體中文
A powerful and versatile markdown viewer that uses a WYSIWYG editor and supports viewing Word, Excel files, etc.

This extension changes the default markdown editor to the vditor.
Command And Setting Namespaces
Markdown commands, custom editor IDs, and settings use the fanrenyi-markdown.* namespace. Non-Markdown office features use fanrenyi-office.*. Legacy Markdown settings under vscode-office.* are still read for compatibility, but new configuration examples use fanrenyi-markdown.*.
Note 1
If your Markdown editor does not have colorful themes such as Solarized_colorful, add the following configuration to the settings.json file in VS Code.
{
"workbench.editorAssociations": {
"*.md": "fanrenyi-markdown.viewer",
"*.markdown": "fanrenyi-markdown.viewer"
}
}

Note 2
If you want to use the original vscode editor, insert this in your settings.json.
{
"workbench.editorAssociations": {
"*.md": "default",
"*.markdown": "default"
}
}
Note 3
Right-click in the editor to export Markdown as PDF, DOCX or HTML. PDF export relies on Chromium, and you can configure the Chromium browser path via fanrenyi-markdown.chromiumPath.

Note 4
Only when the editor uses the colorful theme will the exported PDF be in color.
When the editor uses a colored theme, the exported HTML and PDF will be in color.
When the editor uses a non-colored theme, the exported HTML and PDF will be non-colored.
Custom Markdown Style
Custom styles work in a dedicated Custom editor theme. They can affect both the Vditor editor and exported PDF.
The easiest setup:
- Run command
Markdown: Create Custom Style Example File.
- The extension creates
.vscode/markdown-custom-style.css.
- The extension switches
fanrenyi-markdown.editorTheme to Custom.
- Edit and save the generated CSS file.
You can also configure it manually in settings.json:
{
"fanrenyi-markdown.editorTheme": "Custom",
"fanrenyi-markdown.customStyle.enabled": true,
"fanrenyi-markdown.customStyle.cssFile": "${workspaceFolder}/.vscode/markdown-custom-style.css",
"fanrenyi-markdown.customStyle.variable": {
"fontFamily": "\"Segoe UI\", \"Microsoft YaHei\", Arial, sans-serif",
"fontSize": "16px",
"lineHeight": "1.78",
"textColor": "#263238",
"backgroundColor": "#fbfcf8",
"h1Color": "#145c52",
"h2Color": "#8a4f14",
"linkColor": "#0b7285",
"blockquoteBorderColor": "#4c9f70",
"blockquoteBackgroundColor": "#eef7f1",
"inlineCodeColor": "#9b2c2c",
"inlineCodeBackground": "#f7e9e9",
"codeBlockBackground": "#f4f6f8",
"tableBorderColor": "#b8c2cc",
"tableHeaderBackground": "#edf2f7",
"tableEvenRowBackground": "#f7fafc"
}
}
fanrenyi-markdown.customStyle.variable changes only the named property. For example, h2Color changes only the H2 color. Add borders, spacing, shadows or other complex styles in the CSS file.
Supported variable keys:
fontFamily, fontSize, lineHeight, textColor, backgroundColor, h1Color, h2Color, h3Color, h4Color, h5Color, h6Color, h1FontSize, h2FontSize, h3FontSize, linkColor, strongColor, emphasisColor, blockquoteBorderColor, blockquoteBackgroundColor, inlineCodeColor, inlineCodeBackground, codeBlockColor, codeBlockBackground, codeFontFamily, tableBorderColor, tableHeaderColor, tableHeaderBackground, tableEvenRowBackground.
Priority order:
- Theme CSS.
fanrenyi-markdown.customStyle.cssFile.
fanrenyi-markdown.customStyle.css.
fanrenyi-markdown.customStyle.variable.
The generated markdown-custom-style.css includes detailed selector examples for headings, paragraphs, lists, task lists, blockquotes, code, tables, images, math formulas, Mermaid diagrams, details blocks and some Vditor UI areas. Vditor selectors usually start with #vditor; exported PDF selectors usually start with .content-wrapper.
