FuSys Dev

FuSys Dev is a VS Code / VSCodium extension for working with board-specific Yocto and Buildroot software releases. It provides a convenient interface to retrieve board information, download and prepare releases, and execute tools included in those releases.

Release Tools

FuSys Dev focuses on release management and tool integration.

The actual functionality is provided by tools that are included in the selected release.

Depending on the release, available tools may include:

• Yocto build and image generation workflows
• CVE and vulnerability tracking
• OTA update management
• Network device discovery and connection utilities

Why Release Tools?

Many release tools are designed to simplify common Yocto workflows and reduce initial setup effort for developers.

Rather than requiring users to learn every build step upfront, the provided tools automate and prepare common tasks such as environment setup and build configuration.

At the same time, all workflows remain transparent. Developers can inspect the underlying scripts and tooling to understand what happens behind the scenes. This makes it easier to learn Yocto incrementally while still being productive from day one.

The goal is not to hide Yocto, but to provide a smoother learning curve and a faster path to productive development.

Installation

Install FuSys Dev via:

• Installing the provided .vsix package
• The VS Code Extension Marketplace

After installation, the FuSys Dev icon appears in the Activity Bar.

Requirements

• VSCodium or VS Code
• Internet connection for retrieving board information and downloading releases
• Valid MyF&S account for accessing available releases

Usage

1. Open the FuSys Dev view from the Activity Bar.
2. Click Import Release in the Quick Access section.
3. Sign in using your MyF&S account.
4. Enter a board serial number or select a processor type.
   • When entering a serial number, additional information is displayed
5. Retrieve the list of available releases.
6. Download and import the desired release.
7. Open and use the tools provided by the imported release.

Supported Releases

Release-provided tools are currently being introduced and rolled out to selected releases. Currently supported releases include:

• fsimx Support for additional releases and tools will be added in future versions.

• Release update functionality
• Additional release-provided tools

Known Issues

• Large releases may take time to download depending on network speed
• Some tools may require additional external dependencies to be installed on the system
