Coordigent for VS Code

Coordigent makes the coding agents working in the same repo aware of each other, and shows their work to the people running them. This extension shows your agents inside VS Code: what needs you, who is working, which files are in use, and which files other agents are editing, right in the editor. It reads everything from coord on your machine.

When several agents work in one repo at once (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Kiro and others), each is blind to the rest. Coordigent records what every agent is doing and which files it is in, warns an agent before it edits a file another agent is working in, and lets agents message each other. It never blocks an edit, never pushes, and never uploads a transcript.

Requirements

  • VS Code 1.85 or later.

  • coord installed on the machine. Without it, the extension offers to install it. On macOS or Linux, once per machine and then once per repo:

    curl -fsSL https://coordigent.com/install | sh
    coord login
    coord connect

See Install for the other ways.

It shows itself

  • In a folder that uses Coordigent (a connected repo, or one where an agent is already working), the Coordigent view opens on its own the first time. The setting coordigent.autoReveal changes this: firstRun (the default), always or never.
  • If setup is not finished (no coord, not logged in, or the repo not connected), it opens the Get started with Coordigent walkthrough: install coord, coord login, coord connect, start an agent. Each step ticks itself when it is done.
  • ⌘⇧; on macOS or Ctrl+Shift+; elsewhere opens Coordigent from anywhere.
  • When an agent in this repo first needs you, one notification says so, with Open.

The views

The Coordigent icon in the activity bar carries a badge with the Needs you count. It holds five views:

  • Needs you. Agents that are Blocked or Waiting on you, agents with unread messages, and finished runs. Click a row to jump to the agent's terminal, or open its record.
  • Agents. Live agents grouped by repo, each with its status, app, branch, context %, lines added and removed, and unread messages. Expand one to see the files it edited (click to open the diff) and any conflicts.
  • Team. Everyone in your project, you first, each with their repos, their live agents and the files those agents are in. It updates live as teammates' agents start, edit and end.
  • Runs. Runs still going, then the newest finished ones.
  • Files in use. Each file an agent is working in and who holds it. A file two agents hold reads Conflict · 2 agents.

In the editor, a file another agent holds gets a ● in the Explorer and on its tab, a mark in the gutter, and a hover naming the agent. The first time you type in one, a notification warns you; nothing is blocked. coordigent.decorations.enabled turns these marks off.

The status bar shows how many agents are working and how many need you. Click it for a menu: Open Coordigent, Needs you, Open dashboard, Start agent…, Run doctor and Settings, with whatever fixes the current problem at the top.

Actions

Run these from the Command Palette, a view's context menu, or the agent record. You never type an agent id: any action that needs an agent offers a list, with the one whose terminal is focused first.

Command Does
Start agent… Starts an agent in a new worktree, in a VS Code terminal
Start headless agent… Starts a run with no terminal; tells you when it is done
Message agent… Sends a message to any agent in the project, or to everyone; the agent reads it at its next step
Stop agent… Stops an agent, after you confirm
Open agent record… A tab with the agent's status, edited files, messages, latest handoff, and boxes to ask or review
Ask agent… / Review agent… Asks a read-only copy of the agent a question, or has another agent review its diff; both use model credits and ask first
Show handoff… Shows the handoff an agent left
Take over agent… Picks up another agent's work in a terminal
Open in dashboard Opens the agent, file or conflict on the website
Connect this repo Runs coord connect in a terminal in this folder
Run doctor Shows coord doctor for this folder
Open in TUI Opens the live view in a terminal

The full list is on Extension manager.

Who you are

The views show Signed in as ‹name› · ‹project›, taken from this machine's coord login. Logged out, the Agents view has a Log in button: it runs coord login in a terminal and the views update on their own once you approve, with no reload and nothing to paste.

How it talks to coord

The extension never reads or writes Coordigent's files itself. It asks the coord daemon on this machine through the local API, a socket only your user can open. If the daemon is not running, it falls back to running coord api every 2 seconds and the status bar says daemon stopped; Start daemon brings it back. If coord is older than the extension needs, it offers Update coord.

This extension shows Coordigent's own views. To give Copilot in VS Code the Coordigent tools, see VS Code and Copilot.
