ConvertBruv: HEIC & Image Converter

Convert HEIC, HEIF, WebP, AVIF, JPG, PNG, and more — directly inside VS Code. Right-click any image in the Explorer, pick an output format, done.

100% local — your files never leave your machine. No account, no upload, no external binaries to install.

Features

  • Full HEIC and HEIF support — open iPhone photos with zero configuration
  • Modern format output — save as JPG, PNG, or WebP
  • Right-click workflow — works where you already work
  • Folder batch mode — right-click a folder to convert every image inside
  • Zero dependencies — no npm install, no cwebp, no ImageMagick, no account
  • Privacy-first — all conversion happens on your device; no telemetry, no uploads

Usage

Single file

  1. Right-click an image file in the VS Code Explorer
  2. Choose Convert with ConvertBruv
  3. Pick an output format (JPG, PNG, or WebP)
  4. The converted file is saved alongside the original

Batch (whole folder)

  1. Right-click a folder in the Explorer
  2. Choose Convert All Images in Folder
  3. Pick a target format — every supported image inside gets converted

Command Palette

  • ConvertBruv: Convert with ConvertBruv — convert the active file
  • ConvertBruv: Convert All Images in Folder
  • ConvertBruv: Open Full Converter (Web) — opens the web converter for video, audio and PDF

Supported formats

Input: JPG, JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, HEIF, GIF, BMP, TIFF, AVIF, SVG, ICO

Output: JPG, PNG, WebP

Some formats (TIFF, ICO, SVG) depend on the host platform's image decoder and may not round-trip on every system. For anything the extension cannot handle locally, use Open Full Converter (Web) to jump to convertbruv.com.

Why this extension?

Most image converters in the Marketplace either require external tools (cwebp, sharp, ImageMagick), upload files to cloud services, or skip HEIC entirely. This one ships with everything bundled and handles HEIC/HEIF natively.

Need video, audio, or PDF conversion? Visit convertbruv.com — same privacy guarantees, same local-only processing, running in your browser.

Privacy

The extension performs all conversion locally inside a transient VS Code webview. It does not make network requests, does not collect usage data, and does not send anything to any server.
