Installation

From VS Code Marketplace

  1. Open VS Code
  2. Press Ctrl+Shift+X (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+Shift+X (Mac)
  3. Search for "Codly"
  4. Click Install

Getting Started

1. Open Codly Sidebar

  • Click the Codly icon in the Activity Bar (left sidebar)

2. Sign In

  • Click the "Sign In" button in the chat interface
  • You'll be redirected to the authentication page
  • After signing in, manually open VS Code if it doesn't launch automatically
  • Approve the URI handler dialog when prompted

3. Start Chatting

  • Type your question or request in the chat input
  • Use @ to mention files from your workspace
  • Press Enter or click the send button

4. Apply Code Changes

  • When AI suggests code edits, you'll see visual highlights in your editor
  • Review the changes with color-coded decorations (green = new, red = removed)
  • Accept or reject changes using the CodeLens UI or commands

Action buttons

  • ➕: New Chat - Start a new conversation
  • 🕒: Chat History - View previous chats
  • 👤: Account - Manage your account settings
  • ⚙️: Settings - Configure extension preferences

Privacy & Security

  • Authentication tokens are stored in VS Code's encrypted SecretStorage
  • User profile data is stored in VS Code's GlobalState
  • All communication with backend uses secure connections
