🎵 A m ly — Make Coding Errors Less Boring!

Turn coding errors into a little moment of fun! 🎉

A m ly is a fun Visual Studio Code extension that plays a sound when your coding errors increase. Instead of silently watching errors pile up, let your favorite sound get your attention! 🔊

✨ Features

  • 🎶 Custom Error Sounds — Choose your own sound file.
  • 🚨 Smart Error Alerts — Get notified when the number of coding errors increases.
  • ⏱️ Cooldown Timer — Prevents sounds from playing too frequently.
  • 🎛️ Configurable Settings — Customize how A m ly works.
  • 💻 Cross-Platform Support — Designed for Windows, Linux, and macOS, with platform-specific audio playback requirements.

🚀 Getting Started

  1. Install A m ly in Visual Studio Code.
  2. Open your project.
  3. Configure your preferred sound file.
  4. Start coding and let A m ly make those error moments more entertaining!

⚙️ Extension Settings

Open VS Code Settings and search for A m ly, or edit your settings.json.

Setting Description Default
soundPath Path to your custom sound file Not specified
cooldownSeconds Minimum time between sound alerts 5
onlyWhenErrorCountIncreases Play a sound only when the error count increases true

Example configuration:

{
  "errorSongAlert.soundPath": "/path/to/your/sound.wav",
  "errorSongAlert.cooldownSeconds": 5,
  "errorSongAlert.onlyWhenErrorCountIncreases": true
}

Replace the example sound path with the actual path to your sound file. Check your extension's package.json for the exact setting names and defaults.

🔊 Audio Support

Audio playback depends on your operating system and installed tools.

  • Linux: Supports tools such as ffplay, mpv, paplay, or aplay.
  • macOS: Uses afplay.
  • Windows: The current player supports WAV files.

Make sure a compatible audio player is installed and your sound file can be played by it.

🧠 What Counts as an Error?

A m ly listens to diagnostics reported to VS Code by language servers, linters, and other extensions.

Important: It does not automatically detect every possible runtime error or bug. What it can detect depends on which diagnostics your development tools report to VS Code.

🎯 Why A m ly?

Coding is already challenging. Debugging doesn't always have to feel boring!

Whether you're learning a new language, building a website, or fixing a stubborn bug, A m ly adds a little personality to your coding workflow.

Write code. Catch errors. Enjoy the sound. Repeat. 💜
