Ctoken
Offline estimate of how many tokens text would be as AI input if pasted into chat (heuristic: chars ÷ 4).
Shows two estimates:
- Open file / selection —
~N tok ≈ file (or sel)
- Whole project —
proj ~M — as if you sent the entire workspace as AI input (sensible excludes)
Status bar example: ~1.2k · proj ~48k
- Updates file/sel on edit and focus change
- Project scan is debounced (save / folder change); does not block the UI
- Excludes
node_modules, .git, dist, build, binaries/media, files >500KB; respects .gitignore via git ls-files when available
- No network calls

What this is / is not
- Is: “If I paste this file/selection — or the whole project — into chat / AI input, roughly how many tokens?” — offline size heuristic.
- Is not: live usage. Is not tokens already used by Cursor Agent / chat. Is not Cursor billing.
- Future live metering: only if Cursor exposes a usage API, or you paste bills yourself.
