AWS Transform

Agents modernizing the world's infrastructure and software, backed by years of AWS expertise. AWS Transform is a full modernization factory — connecting assessment through execution in a single experience, so the manual handoffs and lost context that commonly stall large-scale migrations and ongoing tech debt reduction no longer slow you down. This plugin brings AWS Transform directly into your IDE. AWS Transform custom is the first supported capability, with more playbooks on the way. Find out more at aws.amazon.com/transform

This plugin lets you run large-scale code transformations without switching tools. AWS Transform custom supports:

  • Code upgrades: Java, Python, and Node.js version upgrades
  • AWS SDK migrations: Java SDK v1→v2, boto2→boto3, JS SDK v2→v3
  • Framework migrations, library upgrades, and code refactoring
  • Codebase analysis and documentation generation
  • Custom transformations for any language, framework, or library — define your own transformations

Run locally on a few repos for fast iteration, or at scale on hundreds of repos (up to 128 in-parallel).

Getting Started

Install this plugin and click the AWS Transform icon in the Activity Bar.

Usage

  1. Choose execution mode:
    • Local — runs on your machine, best for a few repos
    • Remote — runs in AWS Batch/Fargate, best for large-scale transformations (up to 128 in-parallel)
  2. Add repositories (browse for folders or import from a file)
  3. Select an AI agent to send to (Kiro, Amazon Q, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cline, or OpenAI Codex)

The agent handles the rest — inspecting repos, configuring the transformation, and executing it.

Supported Agents

You need at least one of these agents installed via an extension:

  • Kiro (IDE)
  • Amazon Q
  • Claude Code
  • GitHub Copilot
  • Cline
  • OpenAI Codex

Remote Mode

Remote mode deploys lightweight infrastructure to your AWS account (Fargate, Lambda, S3, CloudWatch) for running transformations at scale. The infrastructure costs nothing when idle and can be torn down anytime — just ask the agent.

Setup is automatic — the agent handles deployment with your consent.
