Companion

Hear what your AI coding agent is doing. Companion speaks up when Claude Code needs your approval, when a build or test fails, and when a task is done. You never miss a finished task or a waiting agent again.

Works in VS Code, Cursor and Windsurf.

What you hear

1. Your agent needs you: a permission request or a question.
2. Something failed: a build or test command, or the agent run itself.
3. Task done: with how long it took.

The important fact always comes first. A more urgent alert cuts off anything less important mid-sentence.

Get started

1. Install Companion. A short welcome walkthrough opens.
2. Click Connect Claude Code. Companion asks first, backs up your Claude Code settings, and adds background hooks that never slow your agent down.
3. Start a new Claude Code session and work as usual.

Controls

While stopped, urgent alerts still reach you as a notification with a soft chime.

Builds and tests in VS Code

Companion also announces build and test commands that run longer than 10 seconds, from VS Code tasks or the terminal. Terminal commands need shell integration, which is on by default. You can edit the command patterns in Settings.

Reminders

Drink water and stretch reminders are included. They wait for agent alerts, count active coding time, and have Snooze and Skip buttons. Reminders only fire while VS Code is open.

Personality

Pick Chill, Playful or Full Gist in the Companion panel. Companion is a warm friend beside you, never a nag.

Privacy

Agent alerts and reminders run entirely on your computer. Companion talks to Claude Code through a local connection on 127.0.0.1 that is protected by a random token. Nothing is sent to a server on the free plan.

Requirements

• macOS uses the built-in say voice.
• Windows uses the built-in Windows speech voice.
• Linux needs espeak-ng or speech-dispatcher.
