🚀 Roadmap: Version 2.0

Cloud Backup & Sync (Coming Soon)

Problem: When switching workstations, all your valuable Copilot chat histories are lost. VS Code stores them locally in workspaceStorage, and there's no built-in way to back them up or restore them on another machine.

Solution: ACCM v2 will add cloud backup capabilities:

Planned Features

Feature Description
GitHub Gist Backup Compress and store chats as private gists
VS Code Settings Sync Sync via Microsoft account settings
Selective Backup Choose which chats to backup (star/tag system)
Compression Gzip compression for efficient storage
Cross-Machine Restore Import backups on any machine
Auto-Backup Scheduled automatic backups

Technical Approach

Backup Flow:
1. User selects chats to backup (or "all")
2. Compress selected chat JSON files
3. Upload to GitHub Gist (private) or Settings Sync
4. Store backup manifest with metadata

Restore Flow:
1. Authenticate with GitHub/Microsoft
2. List available backups with dates
3. Select backup to restore
4. Download, decompress, import
5. Merge with existing chats (no duplicates)

New Commands (v2)

Command Description
ACCM: Backup to GitHub Backup selected chats to GitHub Gist
ACCM: Backup to Settings Backup to VS Code Settings Sync
ACCM: Restore from GitHub List and restore from gist backups
ACCM: Restore from Settings Restore from Settings Sync
ACCM: Configure Auto-Backup Set up scheduled backups
ACCM: Star Chat Mark chat for backup

Storage Strategy

  • GitHub Gist: 100MB per gist, private, versioned
  • Settings Sync: Limited size, syncs with VS Code settings
  • Local Backup: Export to folder for manual backup
