IBM i Advanced Data Viewer

An advanced DB2 data viewer extension for IBM i systems. This extension enhances your ability to work with DB2 files, physical files (PF), and logical files (LF) on IBM i, with comprehensive support for various character encodings including EBCDIC and Hebrew (CP424).

Requirements

Usage

Opening the Data Viewer

You can open the Advanced Data Viewer in multiple ways:

  1. Keyboard Shortcut: Press Ctrl+Alt+D while a supported file is open or focused
  2. Context Menu: Right-click on a file in the Explorer and select "IBM i: Open Advanced Data Viewer"
  3. Command Palette: Press Ctrl+Shift+P and search for "IBM i: Open Advanced Data Viewer"

Supported File Types

  • .PF - Physical Files
  • .LF - Logical Files

Supported Encodings

  • EBCDIC (standard)
  • Hebrew CP424
  • Multiple character mappings for robust data interpretation

Extension Settings

This extension works seamlessly with Code for IBM i and requires an active connection to view data.

Known Issues

  • Requires an established connection to IBM i system via Code for IBM i extension
  • Some complex EBCDIC character mappings may require specific configurations
