Solo Mahjong 🀄

A single-player Taiwanese Mahjong game inside VS Code — take quick breaks without leaving your editor.


Quick Start

  1. Open VS Code
  2. Find Solo Mahjong in the left sidebar
  3. Click New Game
  4. Click any tile to discard it (a new tile draws automatically)
  5. Form a winning hand before 14 draws!

How to Play

Controls

Just click a tile — that's it!

  • Clicking a tile discards it immediately
  • A new tile draws automatically
  • No extra buttons needed
Click tile → Discard → Auto-draw → Repeat

Goal

Form a winning hand within 14 draws.

A winning hand in Taiwanese Mahjong consists of:

  • 5 sets (triplets or sequences) + 1 pair

Win Condition

  • Self-draw only (自摸) — you win by drawing your winning tile
  • Win within 14 draws → Score awarded
  • No win after 14 draws → Drawn game (no score)

Concealed Self-Draw (門清自摸) 3 Always applies in solo play
All Sequences (平胡) 2 Hand with only sequences + pair
Three Concealed Triplets (三暗刻) 2 3 triplets in hand
All Triplets (碰碰胡) 4 Hand with only triplets + pair
Half Flush (混一色) 4 One suit + honor tiles
Small Three Dragons (小三元) 4 2 dragon triplets + dragon pair
Four Concealed Triplets (四暗刻) 5 4 triplets in hand
Five Concealed Triplets (五暗刻) 8 5 triplets in hand
Full Flush (清一色) 8 One suit only
Big Three Dragons (大三元) 8 3 dragon triplets
Small Four Winds (小四喜) 8 3 wind triplets + wind pair
All Honors (字一色) 8 All tiles are winds/dragons
Heavenly Hand (天胡) 16 Win on the very first draw
Big Four Winds (大四喜) 16 4 wind triplets

Leaderboard

Tips for New Players

  • Sequences = 3 consecutive tiles of the same suit (e.g., 1-2-3)
  • Triplets = 3 identical tiles (e.g., 7-7-7)
  • Pair = 2 identical tiles (e.g., 9-9)
  • Winds = East (東), South (南), West (西), North (北)
  • Dragons = Red (中), Green (發), White (白)
  • Focus on one or two suits to increase your chance of a flush
  • Collect honor tiles (winds/dragons) for high-scoring patterns
  • Keep tiles that work together, discard isolated ones
