OpenEdge Config Management

Set up your OpenEdge database connections once and use them everywhere across the AI4YOU OpenEdge tools — DataDigger, Dictionary, Health Check, PASOE and OpenAPI all share the same connection settings.

This extension is installed automatically alongside those tools. You normally won't open it directly; it quietly keeps your OpenEdge configuration in one place so you don't have to enter your database details in each tool separately.

What it does for you

  • One place for your database connections. Add a connection here and every AI4YOU OpenEdge tool can use it immediately.
  • No more duplicate setup. Your connection details are stored once and shared.
  • Stays in sync. Update a connection and the change is picked up everywhere.

Setting up a connection

  1. Open Settings (Ctrl+, / Cmd+,).

  2. Search for OpenEdge ABL.

  3. Under Db Connections, add your database connection string, for example:

    -db mydb -H localhost -S 12345

You can give each connection a friendly name to recognise it more easily.

That's it — your other OpenEdge tools will now use this connection.

Frequently asked

Why is this extension installed? It was installed automatically because one of your AI4YOU OpenEdge extensions needs it to manage shared database settings.

Can I uninstall it? Only if you remove the OpenEdge tools that depend on it. While those are installed, this extension needs to stay so your connections keep working.

Where are my connections stored? In your normal VS Code settings (per workspace or per user), under the OpenEdge ABL section.
