Get Started

NOTE: This extension is pre-installed with Visual Studio Team Services and Team Foundation Server 2015.

Campfire is a web-based group chat tool that lets you set up password-protected chat rooms in just seconds. Invite a client, colleague, or vendor to chat, collaborate, and make decisions.

Your team's activity in one place

See events from your Visual Studio Team Services project right in your team's Campfire room. Help you and your team work more efficiently by keeping communication in one place. Supported events include work item created/updated, code checked in, pull request created/updated, and build completed.

Quick steps to get started

Tip: it is common to create a user to represent Visual Studio Team Services this way events from your projects appear to come from VSTS and not you or another user.

  1. Sign into Campfire
  2. From your Campfire profile page, copy your API authentication token
  3. From the admin area of your Visual Studio Team Services project, select the Service Hooks tab and create a Campfire service hook subscription
    • On the event page, select the event type you want to see in your room and configure any filters
    • On the action page, provide your Campfire account name, paste your API authorization token (from step 2), and select the room to post a message to
  4. Click Finish to create the subscription.

Create other subscriptions as needed.

Events from your team project will now appear right in your Campfire room:
