How It Works
The widget runs inside the Azure Boards work item form and securely calls Azure DevOps and Kendis APIs to fetch and render dependencies. When you select different boards (Solution or PI), the widget recalculates and displays matching dependencies and totals. Editing is applied via authenticated requests to Kendis, preserving alignment with your planning source of truth.
Installation
Install the extension from the Azure DevOps Marketplace to your organization.
Add the "Kendis Dependencies" page to a work item form if not added automatically:
Project Settings → Boards → Process → Select your process → Work Item Types → Layout → Add page → Choose "Kendis Dependencies".
Configuration
There are two levels of configuration:
Organization (Admin-only)
Open any work item and the widget will prompt for configuration if not set.
Provide your Kendis organization short name (used as https://<org>.kendis.io).
Save to enable dependency fetching across the org.
User (Per-user credentials for editing)
When editing dependencies or comments, you will be prompted to validate your Kendis email and API token.
After successful validation, your credentials are stored in Azure DevOps Extension Data (user scope) and used for subsequent edits.
Permissions and Scopes
The extension requests the following Azure DevOps scopes to function:
vso.work_write
vso.profile
vso.identity
vso.graph
These are used to read work item context, determine admin rights, and render correct data for your organization.
Using the Widget
Open a work item in Azure Boards.
Go to the "Kendis Dependencies" page.
Select a board from the dropdown (Solution or PI) to filter context.
Click a dependency to view details, comments, and edit options.
Use "View in Kendis" to open the same context in Kendis for deeper planning.
