Features & Benefits
The GLG Map Server is a GIS Map Server for the CGI and Fast-CGI deployment on a web server. Click here to browse the image gallery, or click here to run on-line GIS demos.
The GLG Map Server is compact and self-contained, with one executable and no dependencies on other libraries and packages, which makes it ideal for use on embedded devices. It is easy to set up and includes a sample dataset with all setup files. All map server features and options may be customized by editing ASCII configuration files. The download also includes an HTML sample of a JavaScript-based GIS viewer which allows zooming, panning, changing projection and selecting layers on the map.
The GLG Map Server complies with the OpenGIS standard and is optimized for run-time performance. It supports rendering of millions of points, both raster, vector and elevation data, rectangular and orthographic projections, unlimited layering, full alpha-blending, transparency and dynamic attribute thresholding. The map server is optimized for displaying maps of both the whole globe and small regions, supports hierarchical tiling, tile cache and automatic layers selection based on zoom thresholds. It also provides support for elevation data and queries of elevation at particular lat/lon location.
Integrated GIS Component and Map Editor
A GLG GIS Object seamlessly integrates Map Server functionality into the GLG drawing, both in the application and the Graphics Builder. The GIS object displays a map image in a selected GIS projection inside of the GLG drawing and transparently handles all aspects of interaction with the Map Server, including zooming and panning the map. Dynamic icons can be displayed on top of the map as shown in the online demos.
The GIS Object is supported in both C/C++/C#, .NET and Java environments on both Windows and Linux/Unix platforms.
A JavaScript / React / Angular / Next.js Library is provided for Web and Mobile deployment in a Web browser, and an ASP.NET or JSP Graphics Server is also provided for an alternative Server-Side Web deployment.
The GLG Graphics Builder may be used as a fast prototyping tool to interactively test the Map Server's setup. The GIS Editing Mode of the GLG Graphics Builder allows a user to place annotations or icons on the map and position them using the GIS lat/lon coordinates. In an application, dynamic icons can be positioned on top of the map using the lat/lon coordinates. To activate the GIS editing mode in the Graphics Builder, select the GIS object and use the Hierarchy Down button to go "down" into it.
