Amy AI
Amy is an AI assistant for Azure DevOps Wikis and Azure Boards.
Bring your own backend. Amy does not include a hosted AI service. Each Azure DevOps organization connects Amy to a compatible backend that it operates, with its own AI provider, subscription and credentials. The publisher operates no backend and receives no data.
- One place in the sidebar: Amy sits next to Boards and Repos, with quick actions for Wiki, Work Items and Documentation, a chat, and a clear display of what it works on.
- Wiki to backlog: turn a Wiki page into Epics, Features, User Stories or Product Backlog Items, Tasks, Bugs and Test Cases.
- Amy on work items: Generate, Improve or Regenerate each text field with Amy; split stories, create Tasks and Test Cases.
- Documentation assistant: review pages, find gaps and ambiguity, apply templates, and propose changes that you accept or reject one by one.
- Ask the Wiki: answers with cited Wiki passages, or "insufficient evidence".
- Wiki pages: create pages from prompts and project templates, summarize pages, and review documentation quality.
- Pull-request documentation: completed pull requests are checked for documentation impact; you approve each proposed page change.
- Bulk operations and sprint documentation.
Nothing is created or changed without your explicit confirmation. Amy reads and writes work items and Wiki pages with your own Azure DevOps permissions; no personal access token is needed.
Setup (organization administrators)
- Deploy Amy's backend in your Azure subscription from the published container image (App Service, managed identity, Key Vault): deployment guide.
- Open Amy in any project, select the Amy logo, then Backend settings; enter the backend URL, test the connection and save.
Until a backend is configured, AI features show a setup message; the other features keep working.
Data handling
When a user runs an AI feature, Amy sends the relevant content only to the backend configured by your organization:
- the selected Wiki page or the relevant Wiki passages;
- the selected work items' fields and comments;
- pull-request metadata (no code diff).
Users confirm the backend before first use and sign in to it. Amy itself stores only the non-secret backend configuration and project templates, in Azure DevOps extension data. Optional backend features (automatic pull-request checks, MCP) keep proposals in the organization's own storage.
