Overview
Simba’s ODBC Driver for Impala is the official Cloudera-endorsed ODBC interfaces for Impala. The Simba driver efficiently transforms any application’s SQL queries into the equivalent form in Impala SQL. Impala SQL provides a high degree of compatibility with the Hive Query Language, and is a subset of SQL-92. The Simba ODBC driver is fully aware of the capabilities of Impala and can take any standard ODBC, and SQL queries and ensure full compatibility with Impala. Queries, including joins, are translated from ANSI SQL to Impala SQL.
Impala is based on Hive, and developed by Cloudera to deliver fast performance. Simba’s ODBC driver efficiently maps ANSI SQL to Impala SQL delivering full SQL application functionality and real-time analytic and reporting capabilities to users.
The followings are highlights of some enhancements and new features:
- Supports on-premise and cloud deployments
- Supports data types: TinyInt, SmallInt, Int, BigInt, Float, Double, Boolean, String and TimeStamp
- Maps ANSI SQL to Impala SQL
- Only direct, universal ODBC 3.52 data access solution for Impala
- Endorsed by Cloudera as the only ODBC driver included in CDH
The Simba Impala driver for ODBC is currently available with Cloudera’s CDH (which includes Impala) here:http://go.cloudera.com/odbc-driver-hive-impala.html
