.NET Code Quality Pack One install for consistent .NET code quality in Visual Studio 2022 — plus Code Compass, an AI chat and code-review assistant that works with your own OpenAI, Anthropic or Ollama models.

Works with .NET 5+ / .NET Core / .NET Standard and .NET Framework projects, even in the same solution.

What you get Code quality, set up in one click Tools > .NET Code Quality (also on the solution's right-click menu):

Check Solution – a read-only report of which projects are ready and what to fix. Apply Code Quality Standards – wires Roslynator, SonarAnalyzer, StyleCop and Meziantou analyzers plus shared rule severities into the open solution (.editorconfig, CodeQuality.props). Remove undoes it. Auto-Fix Warnings – applies every automatic fix (formatting, code style, analyzer code fixes) after backing up your files. Undo Last Auto-Fix puts them back.

Code Quality Fixer window Review and fix warnings page by page, with a before/after preview of every change.

Team Rules window Your team's own rules in a Markdown file:

  • severity overrides and settings synced to .editorconfig
  • custom pattern rules with auto-fixes
  • AI review of the open file against plain-language guidelines and GitHub Copilot instruction files (.github/instructions)
  • token usage per review, per day and per model
  • Code Compass – AI chat and code review
  • Chat with any model you configured; answers stream in.
  • Paste screenshots (Ctrl+V), attach files, or send the selected code.
  • Answers render tables, lists and syntax-coloured code that follows the Visual Studio Dark / Light theme. Copy or Insert in editor (Ctrl+Z undoes it).
  • Review the selection or file against your team rules: each finding has its rule, line, explanation and a corrected snippet.
  • Chats are saved per solution and continue where you left off.
  • Themes: Visual Studio (follows the IDE), Dark, Light, Midnight Blue.
  • Bring your own AI provider
  • Nothing is preconfigured and no other server is involved: requests go straight from Visual Studio to the provider you choose.

Code Compass > gear icon > Configure… (or Team Rules > gear icon > AI providers…):

Provider You enter Notes OpenAI API key, model names (e.g. gpt-4.1), optional API URL Any OpenAI-compatible API works too (LM Studio, vLLM, OpenRouter…) Anthropic API key, model names (e.g. claude-sonnet-5-5) Ollama Optional API URL (default http://localhost:11434) Any model you pulled; no key needed; code stays on your PC Click Test connection, then Save. New models need no extension update.

Privacy and security Settings are stored for your Windows account only. API keys are encrypted with Windows DPAPI, never shown again, and never written to logs. The window tells you when your code leaves your PC (OpenAI, Anthropic, remote servers) and when it stays local (Ollama on localhost). Also installs (extension pack) Roslynator 2022 · SonarQube for Visual Studio · CodeMaid VS2022 · Fine Code Coverage 2022 — installed from the Marketplace the next time Visual Studio starts.

Requirements Visual Studio 2022 (17.x), Community, Professional or Enterprise For AI features: an OpenAI or Anthropic API key, or Ollama installed locally Feedback Questions and ideas are welcome in the Q&A tab. Bugs and feature requests: see the source code repository link on this page.
