Manifest Designer for Android
A complete visual designer for AndroidManifest.xml in .NET MAUI and .NET for Android projects –
plus central version management, one-click Android release builds and deployment to connected devices.
Features
Manifest designer
- Every manifest setting in clearly structured sections: Manifest, Application, Permissions, Features,
Activities, Services, Broadcast receivers, Content providers and Meta-data.
- Every attribute has three states: not set · true · false – for example, set
android:debuggable
explicitly or remove it entirely.
- An info button on every setting: hover for an explanation, click to open the matching section of the
official Android documentation.
- Search across all sections and a Show only set values filter.
- Your formatting is preserved, and the designer stays in sync with the XML editor (shared undo and save).
Checks with quick fixes
Detects hard-coded debuggable="true", missing android:exported on components with intent filters,
cleartext HTTP, duplicate permissions, inconsistent version numbers and more – most of them fixable with one click.
Central version management
Enter the version and build number once – the extension updates every location in the project or solution
(versionName/versionCode, ApplicationDisplayVersion/ApplicationVersion in all property groups,
AssemblyVersion, FileVersion, Info.plist, Package.appxmanifest, …) and shows old → new before writing.
One-click Android release
The Android Release button next to the Start button saves all files, temporarily sets
android:debuggable to false, runs dotnet publish -c Release and hands you the signed .aab/.apk.
Missing signing details (keystore, alias, passwords) can be entered right in the dialog. Passwords are passed
via environment variables – never on the command line – and can optionally be stored encrypted with Windows DPAPI.
Deploy to device
The Deploy to Device button lists connected adb devices, builds a release APK or reuses the last one,
installs it (keeping app data or as a clean install) and launches the app. It shows the installed version up
front, warns about downgrades and explains common adb errors.
Requirements
- Visual Studio 2022 (17.0 or later) or Visual Studio 2026
- For release builds and device deployment: the ".NET Multi-platform App UI" or .NET for Android workload
Privacy
The extension does not collect or send any data. Settings (for example a Play Console link or optionally
encrypted signing passwords) are stored locally under %LOCALAPPDATA%\AndroidManifestEditor only.
Documentation links open in your default browser.
