Work Item Checklist
Work Item Checklist puts required delivery steps directly on the work item, tied to the current state.
Use it when your team has repeated misses during handoff or release because key checks live in docs, not in the actual workflow.
What this extension is for
- Making state changes consistent across people and teams
- Ensuring "ready for QA" or "done" means the same thing every time
- Keeping the checklist where the work happens, not in separate notes
Real-world use
A team moves a User Story from In Progress to Ready for QA.
The checklist for Ready for QA can require items like:
- Test evidence added
- Acceptance criteria verified
- Feature flag status confirmed
The assignee checks items in the work item panel. Once complete, they can move forward with confidence that the handoff is actually ready.
How to use it
- Open Project Settings and configure the checklist.
- Open any supported work item.
- Complete checklist items shown for the current state.
- Move to the next state when required items are done.
What gets added
- A State Checklist panel on work item forms
- A State Checklist page in Project Settings
- Which work item types are enabled
- Which states are enabled for each type
- The checklist items for each enabled state
- The order of checklist items within each state
Privacy and data storage
Checklist settings and checklist completion data are stored in Azure DevOps Extension Data Service, scoped to the project.
