Command line tool to upgrade Architecture diagrams and models from Beta2 to the latest version of VS 2010(Currently RC)
Download

This is a command line tool to upgrade diagrams and models created using the Beta2 and RC releases of Visual Studio Ultimate 2010 to the latest version, currently RTM. The tool upgrades UML diagrams, as well as Layer diagrams and Sequence diagrams that are reverse-engineered from code. Dependency graphs (.dgml files) do not need to be upgraded.

Supported upgrades:

-   From Beta2 to RTM

-   From RC to RTM

o   Note that only work item links need to be upgraded from RC. Other than that, RC models will open and work in RTM without the need to run this tool.

Setup:

  • Make sure that RTM version of Visual Studio 2010 and .Net 4.0 are already installed on the machine.
  • Then run the MSI. The default install location is under \Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\Tools.
  • The fileModel Upgrade ReadMe.txt has information about how to run the tool. You can find it in the folder “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\Tools\Model upgrade files” in a typical installation. There are shortcuts to the Readme on your Desktop and in the All Programs\Microsoft Visual Studio 2010\Visual Studio Tools\Model upgrade folder in theStart menu.

Changes since RC version of this tool:

-   Ability to upgrade work item links from Beta2 and RC to RTM

-   Usability updates:

o   New command name: ModelUpgrade

o   New install location: Common7\Tools

o   Tool is now run from the VS command line

o   Backup folders are created for each run of the tool.

o   Restore command has been removed

o   New /force and /skipworkitems command switches to support work item updates from RC to RTM

Known issues:

  • The tool does not support upgrading from Beta1. Unfortunately there is no tool to do this.
  • The tool creates a log file at the location where you run the tool from. With that in mind, it is recommended that you navigate in the VS command prompt to the location of your model files before running the tool.
