Business Requirements Document Generator

Exporting workitems to document format to work with is a challenge in Azure Devops. We have created this tool to export workitems to printable formats to address this challenge. This will eliminate duplicate efforts of creating business requirements documents

Generate business requirements document from work items.

1. Generate document from query
2. Generate document from workitem

Create printable documents as pdf and Word from WorkItem menu and also from queries. Allows you to include child workitems and comments as well.

From a WorkItem --> Menu --> Export Document

In the dialog choose if you want to include child items and comments Click on PDF or DOCX buttons to create documents.

To create a document from queries

Left navigation area Boards --> Business Requirements Select the query from the dropdown Choose if you want to include child items and comments Click PDF or DOCX button to create documents

Documents will be downloaded in a new tab or directly to your downloads folder depending on your browser settings.

Detailed Instructions

From Query

Queries provide a good way to organize workitems, and provide control on the order and allows hierarchical placement while generating business requirements documents

Points to note: either you fetch all work items needed to export in the query and dont select child items switch or include only parent work items in the query and select child items switch - combinign both options together will print duplicate workitems.

5. clicking on header will open the work item. However any chnages will not be updated immidietely. you have to select another query and reselect it to update.
6. Project name displayed as title of the document.

From WorkItem

From a workitem, you can compose and export it to PDF or Word from the menu.

then click the format you like to export it to.

Note: we are working on fixing the width of the preview popup. In the mean time please scroll to right and find export buttons
