Embrix
The Claude Code agent for Visual Studio.
Embrix lets you use the Claude Code agent without leaving Visual Studio. Ask Claude to explain code, fix bugs,
refactor, write tests, or run commands, and review every change before it happens, in a tool
window docked next to Solution Explorer.
The extension drives the Claude Code CLI you already have installed. Your login, CLAUDE.md
files, permission rules, MCP servers, hooks, skills and slash commands all work the same way they
do in the terminal.
Features
- Streaming chat with Markdown, code blocks, todo lists and subagent progress.
- You stay in control. Every file edit and command shows a card with an inline diff or the
command, plus Allow, Always allow, Deny, or tell Claude what to do instead.
Open diff shows the proposed change in Visual Studio's own diff viewer.
- Command menu (
/): attach files and images, mention project files, clear, rewind code
and/or conversation to an earlier message, bookmarks, export to Markdown, switch model,
effort level, Ultracode, switch models when a message is flagged, account and usage, fast
mode, and all your slash commands.
- Permission modes: Ask before edits, Edit automatically, Plan mode, and Auto. Switch with
Shift+Tab.
- Plan approval and questions. Approve Claude's plan, or answer its multiple-choice
questions, right in the chat.
- Past conversations. Browse and resume earlier sessions for the open solution.
- Usage at a glance. A banner when you near a plan limit, and a full account & usage view
with 5-hour and weekly limits and reset times.
- Native feel. Follows your Visual Studio theme and font; file links open in the editor.

Privacy and security
- Embrix sends nothing anywhere itself and has no telemetry. It starts the Claude Code
CLI on your machine; the CLI talks to Anthropic exactly as it does in a terminal.
- Model output is sanitized before display, and the chat panel can't run scripts or reach the
network. The extension only executes the exact tool call you approved.
- Bypass permissions mode is hidden unless you turn it on in Tools › Options › Claude Code.
Requirements
- Visual Studio 2022 (17.14 or later) or Visual Studio 2026, on x64 or Arm64.
- Claude Code CLI, signed in.
