Azure DevOps Insights

Engineering workflow insights and delivery analytics directly inside Azure DevOps.

Azure DevOps Insights

Azure DevOps Insights turns your Azure DevOps work item data into practical delivery intelligence for PMO, delivery, and engineering teams.

Instead of manually digging through boards, queries, sprint reports, and work item histories, teams can ask operational questions and get clear, data-backed answers about delivery health, sprint reliability, blockers, stale work, accountability, quality risks, and portfolio progress.

Built for PMOs, delivery managers, engineering managers, product operations teams, and technology leaders, Azure DevOps Insights helps organizations understand where execution is slowing down before delays become business problems.

What You Can Analyze

Azure DevOps Insights helps teams answer questions like:

  • Which teams consistently miss sprint commitments?
  • Which initiatives are at highest risk of delay?
  • Where is delivery predictability decreasing?
  • Which work items have no clear owner?
  • Which blockers are older than SLA thresholds?
  • Which workflow stages have the highest dwell time?
  • Where is scope increasing after sprint commitment?
  • Which teams are carrying too much unfinished work?
  • Which projects show declining throughput?
  • Which dependencies are causing the biggest delays?

Key Capabilities

Delivery & Progress Insights

Understand committed vs. delivered work, sprint carry-over, throughput trends, backlog growth, and delivery predictability across teams and initiatives.

Scope & Planning Visibility

Track late-added work, overcommitment patterns, shifting priorities, and planning risks that affect delivery confidence.

Flow & Efficiency Analysis

Identify workflow bottlenecks, long dwell times, slow-moving work items, backward movement, and cycle time issues.

Governance & SLA Monitoring

Surface blocked, stale, or inactive work items based on delivery thresholds, so teams can improve backlog hygiene and reduce hidden execution risk.

Accountability Mapping

Find work items without clear ownership and compare accountability across Business, IT, QA, Deployment, and other ownership groups.

Quality & Defect Signals

Review reopened items, unresolved bugs, quality-related delays, and recurring defect patterns across teams and projects.

Portfolio-Level Visibility

Give PMO and leadership teams a clearer view of delivery health across multiple teams, projects, and initiatives.

Why Teams Use Azure DevOps Insights

Azure DevOps already contains the operational signals your teams need. The challenge is turning those signals into timely decisions.

Azure DevOps Insights helps teams move from scattered work item data to clear operational answers, so leaders can act faster, reduce delivery surprises, and keep teams aligned around the work that matters most.

Best For

  • PMO teams
  • Delivery managers
  • Engineering managers
  • Product operations teams
  • Program managers
  • Agile leads
  • Technology leadership teams
  • Organizations managing multiple projects in Azure DevOps

How It Works

  1. Install Azure DevOps Insights in your Azure DevOps project.
  2. Select a timeframe such as 2 sprints, 6 sprints, 30 days, 60 days, 90 days, or quarter.
  3. Choose from curated PMO and engineering questions, or ask your own custom question.
  4. Review clear insights, charts, counts, and recommended next actions directly inside Azure DevOps.

Privacy & Data

Azure DevOps Insights is designed to work with your Azure DevOps data securely and on demand.

  • Data is queried live only when you ask a question.
  • Nothing is stored, synced, or processed in the background.
  • Only delivery and work signals are analyzed, such as work items, commits, pull requests, sprint activity, and workflow changes.
  • Source code content is not read or analyzed.
  • Your Azure DevOps session token is used only for the duration of the request.
  • Insights are generated from the data available in your current Azure DevOps project and selected timeframe.
