Project Hero is an addin for Visual Studio that allows you to view the build/clean/deploy status for projects and large solutions.
Download

Project Hero is a simple and easy to use plugin that allows you to see the build/clean status of projects in your solution in a clean and visual way. The need for findinga better alternative than the Output Window for large solution build notification drove this effort. I then landed upon Marius Bancila's plugin and that was no longer supported and hadn't been updated in years, and with no source code available I started from the drawing board.

With the support of colleagues and friends who have enjoyed using my plugin I decided to release this for all to enjoy, learn and extend it however you wish. This project is written in C# using the Visual Studio 2013 SDK so make sure you have it installed.

The download file is a self-extracting .EXE that contains the Binary built and ready for inclusion into Visual Studio, along with the Source Code and a installation setup .pdf file for your convenience.

  • Support added for Visual Studio 2012.
  • New Quick Sync Feature added which keeps selected files and folders synchronized to target folders after successful builds.

I like to always give credit where it's due both for the idea that inspired me to build this plugin and for those who have assisted in helping me figure out tricky VS internals.

  • Inspired by a great but no longer supported/maintained plugin written byMarius Bancila (Visma Software). If you're using a version of Visual Studio earlier than 2013 then I recommend you download his plugin at the following link. /vsgallery/2A2293B4-1808-44AA-B030-661F6803D8A1
  • Carlos J. Quintero (www.mztools.com) who shed a lot of light on plugin developmentfor Visual Studio. His website is an excellent source of knowledge and I highly recommend it on your journey to learning about Visual Studio Internals, packages, etc...

Roadmap:

I'm planning to extend Project Hero to Visual Studio 2015 this year and will be adding multi-language support so Project Hero can be enjoyed across the globe. If you have any cool ideas or comments please feel free to leave a comment.

Enjoy!
